Rooney: My Problem With Tevez

Sun: While England still have work to do if they are to be involved in next summer’s finals, domestically things could not be much rosier for Rooney and United.

The Red Devils striker has blasted seven goals in six games, they have one foot in the Champions League knockout stages and have hit a purple patch in the Premier League to lie second behind Arsenal.

All of that has made a mockery of those who insisted Roo could not play alongside summer arrival Carlos Tevez, who is already becoming a cult figure on the Old Trafford terraces.

Boss Alex Ferguson has already said he believes Argentina ace Tevez could have a similar impact on the club as United legend Eric Cantona, 15 years ago. Rooney does not disagree — even if communication is something of a problem at the moment.

He added: “Carlos is settling in really well but it’s a bit difficult at the minute because he doesn’t speak much English.

“At the moment it’s probably sign language if we’re facing each other.

“If you have to shout something, you just make a noise and hope he understands!

“We make runs off eye contact too — but if you’re behind him you just have to shout and hope!

“But we understand each other’s game as well, and find other ways to combat him not speaking too much English.

“He’s settling in well, though, and after the Roma game a few of us — me, Carlos and Rio Ferdinand — went out for a meal. He’s done so well and hopefully it’s a partnership we will build on. Carlos is a fantastic player — intelligent, good on the ball, and he works his socks off.

“He’s been brilliant for us.”

While Tevez has been the shining light of the new boys, winger Nani and midfielder Anderson have also played their part, while the crocked Owen Hargreaves was waiting in the wings.

It has given Fergie a star-studded cast and prompted quotes that he believes United can go on to rule the world.

Rooney has no plans to contradict his boss.

He admitted: “If that is the case I am not going to argue with him!”

Arsene, Rafa, Avram and Co, don’t say you haven’t been warned . . .
