Foster: Count Me Out This Year

Sky: The 24-year-old was forced to go under the knife in the summer after suffering cruciate ligament damage.

Foster’s rehabilitation from the operation is going well and he could be back in action in February.

But the England keeper, who is still to play a first-team game for United, admits his hopes of forcing his way into Sir Alex Ferguson’s side this term have all but disappeared.

Foster said: “To be honest, I have pretty much written this season off.

“Maybe I might get reserve games or go out on loan for a couple of months but I am not expecting anything.”

Foster, who played for Watford in the top flight last season, says when he does get fit he will not be happy playing second fiddle to anybody.

“I am only 24, so I have plenty of years left in me yet,” he added.

“But I won’t be happy just to sit on the bench and pick up my pay cheque.

“I want to be playing, whether that is with England, Manchester United,

Watford or wherever.”
