OH: Out For Another Month
Sir Alex Ferguson’s jubilation after seeing Manchester United move into a position of power in Group F was tempered by the news that Owen Hargreaves faces up to another month on the sidelines because of tendinitis in a knee.
The news will have implications for Steve McClaren, the England manager, with Hargreaves unavailable for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Estonia and Russia.
“Owen has had an injection to try to get rid of the tendinitis and he will be out for three or four weeks,” Ferguson reported. “It was an option we had from the very start. He felt it in training [on Monday] so we decided to do something immediately.”
Ferguson went on to say Hargreaves would not need an operation. None the less, it is a demoralising blow for the midfielder, who has been restricted to three appearances since his £17m move from Bayern Munich in the summer.
