Is He The New ‘Sicknote?’
Whispers that United have bought another ‘sicknote’ will grow louder after Owen Hargreaves declaration that he will not play in United’s Champions League match tomorrow.
“I’ve never really had this injury before so this is new territory,” Hargreaves said. “It looks as though I won’t be ready. I’ve not trained.”
The 26-year-old midfielder signed from Bayern Munich in the close season after a miserable final year in Germany during which he was mostly injured after suffering a broken leg.
Hargreaves has managed 37 games in the past two seasons. Records show that the England star has made 145 appearances in seven years since 2000, an average of less than 21 games per season.
Nevertheless United signed Hargreaves in a deal worth £20 million. The midfielder’s contribution on his debut against City was excellent. His efforts against Sunderland and Spurs were less remarkable. Now he is injured again as United prepare for their seventh match of the campaign.
