Lyon and My Grandma Want Heinze …

Press reports claim Lyon coach Alain Perrin wants to sign Gabriel ‘Scouse’ Heinze.

The French champions have lost centre-back Cris with a serious knee injury and hope to exploit Heinze’s current difficulties with United.

“The long unavailability of our captain is added to that of Gregory Coupet and Fred, which means three key players of the team,” Perrin informed the sports newspaper L’Equipe. “Our job is to look for, and find, the best replacement for Cris. The problem is that there are not a lot of players who could join us.

“The best thing would be to find a player able to play as a left central defender, and it is even more difficult to find. Gabriel Heinze? He has the right profile. We have to know if, after playing a big part of his career as a left full-back, he now wants to play regularly as a central defender.”

Heinze has been linked with a number of clubs and even my grandma quite fancies the shaggy-haired defender but his heart seems set on Liverpool.

Moreover, Lyon’s ‘Reggie’ Perrin is an unreliable source. Two months ago, he was telling hacks about Lyon’s interest in Louis Saha until his hands-on chairman slapped him down and said the French malingerer was not wanted.

Heinze’s future will be settled one-way or another by the decision of the Premiership panel which meets on 20 August.
