Brown: Fringe’ll Do Nicely…

Mirror: WES BROWN wants stay at Manchester United for the rest of his career - even if that means remaining a fringe player.

Brown’s United future looked in doubt after the arrival of defensive duo Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra pushed him down the Old Trafford pecking order.

And the England defender, who has only one year left on his current contract, was linked with a move midway through last season after playing just a handful of games - with Newcastle leading the chase. But because of an injury crisis at Old Trafford, Brown ended up making 37 appearances.

And now he is looking to extend his stay at United.

“Throughout my career I’ve always been a squad player,” said Brown. “The manager knows he can pick me and I can do a good job, so I’m very happy here.

“Leaving United is a conversation I would dread to have with the gaffer. I love playing for United. It’s my home town, so I’m just glad to still be here after all the injuries I’ve had. Leaving would be a step down.”

ManUtd.Com : Manchester United defender Wes Brown has said he never wants to leave Manchester United, even if it means remaining a squad player.

The 27-year-old England international dismissed stories linking him with a move away from Old Trafford during the summer as “rubbish”.

Being dogged by injuries and seldom being in Sir Alex Ferguson’s first choice XI, Brown has made just 162 league appearances since his debut nine years ago, but Brown feels being a squad player at United is better than being first choice elsewhere.

“Talk about me leaving this summer was rubbish really,” said Brown. “I love being a Manchester United player and I have never thought about going anywhere else.

“There is always competition for places here. We have brought in some more new faces and the team is looking young and good. It will be great to be involved this season.”
