O’Shea: I’ve Won Over The Boo Boys …

Sun: JOHN O’SHEA admits he had to win over the boo-boys to become a Manchester United star.

The versatile defender bore the brunt of fans’ displeasure as United went through the barren period that ended this season.

But the Irish international has fought back and now even has the highest strike-rate percentage in the Premiership.

With four goals in five attempts he is better than Rooney, Ronaldo and Drogba.

O’Shea joked: “I saw the stat and I was giving the strikers a bit of stick. But it is just one of those things — I didn’t have too many shots.”

It’s a long way from November 2005 when United fans booed him in Paris as he warmed up before the Champions League defeat to Lille.

Roy Keane had just been kicked out the club after a vicious attack on management and players. And many fans saw O’Shea as one of those young under-performers.

O’Shea, 25, said: “Yeah, I was aware of what was happening.

“You are at a massive club and it is not always going to be nice and rosy every day of the week and you have to accept it. That is what builds your character.

“But then we went and beat Chelsea and it was a big turning point.
“I knew the people at the club had confidence in me. And that was all that was concerning me.”
