Hargreaves: The dominoes begin to fall …
Midfielder Owen Hargreaves’ move to United moved a step closer when his club Bayern Munich confirmed their interest in £12 million-rated Italian striker Luca Toni.
Bayern need United’s cash to help bring in new players after a disappointing campaign. World Cup winner Toni is believed to be the first of several new recruits this summer.
“He’s a guarantee to score goals, he has character and always helps the team,” club president Franz Beckenbauer told Gazzetta dello Sport. “He’s a special type of player. Bayern needs new blood. I really hope he comes.”
German magazine Sport-Bild has reported that the Fiorentina striker has already agreed a deal with Bayern worth £12 million.
Sir Alex is believed ready to pay £17 million to add Hargreaves to his squad. Last month, Beckenbauer signalled that Bayern would only accept a higher offer. “If it is right that there is an offer of 25-30 million euros for Hargreaves, then I would seriously consider it,” he said. “I think the board also think this is the way to satisfy the needs of the player.”
