Rooney: Early Return

Sky: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful Wayne Rooney will make his injury comeback ahead of schedule against Fulham on 3rd December.

Rooney damaged his ankle in a training ground accident a fortnight ago and it was initially feared he was facing a month on the sidelines.

Ferguson denies Rooney - who had scored eight goals in seven games prior to the injury - has returned to training, but he did confirm the 22-year-old should be fit for Fulham’s trip to Old Trafford.

“I think Wayne will be back for the Fulham game, definitely,” said Ferguson.

“He’s doing some running. Somebody reported that they saw him training on Tuesday. That’s some eye sight!

“He started some light running on Thursday and did some good running on Friday.

“Wayne won’t play at Bolton or against Sporting Lisbon, but I would think he’ll be available for Fulham.”

Meanwhile, Gary Neville will make an appearance for the Red Devils’ reserves next week as he steps up his rehabilitation from a series of muscular problems.
